Paintings Turn Corporate Logos into Abstract Art

A British design collective is turning corporate logos into art.

While browsing around the Creative Review site recently, I discovered a blog entry that showcases a project entitled You Took My Name by Dorothy, a UK based design collective located in Manchester.  They have taken corporate logos from a selection of very well known brands and have created pieces of abstract, minimalist art by removing any typography associated with the brand.  This leaves the simple shapes and colours associated with each logo.

After hunting around for more information, I found another blog entry on this same topic by Suzanne Labarre, who it seems was fortunate enough to speak to someone at Dorothy.

“Why did we do it?” says Dorothy’s Ali Johnson. “Simple really. We like it when art and consumerism collide. We liked the idea of taking something we see everyday like a corporate mark and turning it something that is an artwork in its own right.”

I liked Ali's point of view and I thought I'd share. How many of the companies can you guess based on the paintings in the slideshow above? I managed 6/7 when I first saw them.

Leave your guesses in the comments below.

No, I'm not posting the answers... yet.
