Board Games Are Retro Cool!

Remember a time when we as kids didn't get up from the dinner table to run to a laptop computer so we could Tweet how much we hate brussel sprouts or change our Facebook status to something having to do with Nyan Cat?  Remember a time when some families (mine once in a while, some quite frequently) would clear the table and then pull out the board games for a few hours?  I used to love games like Sorry, Trouble, Parcheesi and Life, to name a few. Some of my favourite memories of my younger days and of my family harken back to this time.

Well check this out. Sam Kittinger, a Baltimore design student has designed packaging for some Parker Brothers board games which have been around for what seems like forever.  He's gone with a very cool retro style. Included in the set are classics such as Clue, Monopoly, Risk, and the one that stood out as being an odd selection to me; a Ouija Board.

Check the photos above to see the collection.

Board game design has, in more recent years, been what I'd describe as "over the top".  Crazy colours, crazy lines, cluttered and just plain… ugly as sin. Therefore I'm really digging the less-is-more thing Sam went with here.

Nice work Sam!
